Chicken keeping courses at Rosehill Farm B&B start again. The courses on keeping chickens , ducks, geese or poultry in your garden or small holding are half day, or whole day and are tailor made to suit the person interested. For more details and cost, please contact Mary who is also the proprietor of Rosehill Farm. I have been keeping poultry for fresh eggs on our livestock farm for over 12 years and I enjoy keeping traditional breeds of ducks, chickens and geese.

This chicken lays green coloured eggs and is a cross with two pure breeds! Please contact Mary for course details. All day for adults is £50 each with light lunch provided. 3 hour course is £30 per adult. I tailor the course to the person and so the subjects covered vary and are agreed in advance. I also keep ducks and geese, so you can ask questions about keeping them in your garden or small holding.
  1. Generally though you will learn about: the different breeds of poultry and what would suit your needs and set up.
  2. Pros and cons of having chickens.
  3. Predators, diseases, ailments and the prevention of those problems
  4. Housing, feeding, and care of your birds.
  5. Bird behaviour, broodiness & introducing new birds to your flock.

Rosehill Farm offers Bed and Breakfast or self catering in Nook Cottage, so you can enjoy a stay with us and do the chicken keeping course. Photo of cliffs at Castlemartin, Pembrokeshire.

The farm and its accommodation are within easy reach of beaches and many of Pembrokeshire's attractions, such as the coastal walk in the marine national park.

We are not far from the departure point for Skomer Island where you can see other birds, such as the popular and photogenic puffins which breed on the Island in spring and early summer.

Cheeky ducks, chickens and geese in the farmyard chasing me for food. They should be in their designated area where the pond is. You can view them from one of the bedroom windows if you stay at Rosehill Farm Bed and Breakfast.

St Bride's Bay, above is another popular beach to visit; especially for divers to learn diving or for families to picnic on the beach.
Our driveway is full of primroses in spring, as is much of Pembrokeshire. The bluebells are out now.
The spring flowers are on the cliffs and beautiful walks, don't delay if you want to see the spring magic in Pembrokeshire.

  1. Hi whoever is interested in my farmstay B&B. I have had trouble trying to edit this blog, so I have done a new website, and a Pembrokeshire blog, see http://www.pembrokeshirebb.com navigation bar on far right, with lots of pics of farm animals and attractions in Pembrokeshire: Such as its award winning beaches; places to eat and visit; castles and havens; historic towns like Tenby and St Davids and cathedral; plus boat trips to Skomer Island and see the breeding puffins before they fledge and go out to sea. Don't forget the gannetry on Grassholme with spectacular diving gannets, many other boat trips and whale and dolphin watching in Cardigan Bay.

You can walk along the famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path of 186 miles long, and now joined up. If you want to be active on the sea or rivers, eg the huge River Cleddau, as documented recently on TV, then bring your boat or kayak, (you can store it here on our ample drive offroad and private), or even your diving kit like many of our guests have done. See trip advisor for reviews from the last divers I had here, Sven and his wife and friend!

Do email me for pleasant thoughts and stories that may come to mind when you read this comment. I would love to share it with you and others. Perhaps you have holidayed in Pembrokeshire a long time ago and did not realise what it has to offer now. Come now and you will still see the beautiful and abundant summer wildlife flowers on the coast and hedgerows, but they will not hang around for long, as summer progresses!
